Are you tired of your bouquets only lasting a couple of days in this scorching weather? Well - look no further and follow this guide with tips and tricks on how to make your flowers stay fresh and hydrated for as long as possible this Summer.

Cutting Stems
- Cut stems every couple of days
- Cut them at a 45 degree angle taking only 1-2cm off at a time
Changing Water
- Aim to change the water every couple of days, adding flower food to the water with every change
- Certain flowers that release sap like tulips or daffodils may need to be changed more frequently
Flower Positioning
- Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and in shaded areas where possible
- Do not have them positioned next to strong drafts like fans or air conditioning units
- Do not have them near heat sources like radiators
Specific Tips
- Carnations should only be cut between the nodes (bobbly bits!)
- Woody stemmed flowers like hydrangeas or lilacs can be cut vertically < 5cm up the stem to increase water absorption and help the water move up the stem to the flower head, it is no longer recommended to smash the wood stems as this can release bacteria or sap from the stem
- You can also scold stems of dehydrated roses in boiling water by submerging 2-4cm of the stem in boiling water for 10-20 seconds.
- Drooping soft stemmed flowers like gerberas can be suported by wiring the stems
